Yvonne (62) had been living with her daughter and was seeking an independent living situation. She heard about ALA through a friend.

Yvonne had already looked into several other housing options before she came to ALA. However, she was unable to find a situation that was affordable and that could offer her the independence she was looking for. Although she was still working part time, Yvonne’s small salary and modest SSA payment made it difficult to find housing.

Yvonne moved into one of ALA’s Courtyard Apartments, and instantly fell in “love” with her new apartment. On the first day at her new home Yvonne met all of her neighbors and knew them all by name. She now enjoys the privacy and independence of her own apartment while appreciating the security and sense of community that all of ALA’s buildings are able to offer.

In a letter she wrote to ALA Yvonne said, “How can I thank you enough for the beautiful apartment. The Apartment is just like a home. I feel so comfortable…My daughter was feeling sad about my situation but as soon as she saw the courtyard apartment, she felt better and is very happy for me now.” Yvonne has said many times that she feels “lucky” to be a resident at one of ALA’s housing communities and we are happy to be able to give her the independence and security of affordable senior housing.
